The Nevada State Board of Education has selected six candidates to potentially fill the state superintendent seat.

The board followed a blind review process to whittle down the pool of 19 applicants when it met Wednesday.

Candidates include Lisa Coons, who was recently the state superintendent in Virginia; Heather Sánchez, an administrator from Washington state; Amy Suman, a former district superintendent in New Mexico; Sylvia Mitchell, a district superintendent in Texas; Victor Wakefield, a Teach for America executive; and Darryl Wyatt, a retired CCSD principal who now works as an assistant principal at a charter school.

The board will publicly interview candidates Aug. 28-29 in Las Vegas.
