One dead, one wounded in Avalon Pier shooting

Describing it as an “isolated incident” at a late afternoon press conference, Kill Devil Hills Assistant Police Chief Dana Harris reported that one person was killed and another injured in a mid-afternoon shooting at Avalon Pier on Thursday, July 31.

The identities of the victims and the suspect were not revealed at the press conference. But Harris said the suspect fled the scene in a car, was apprehended in Southern Shores and is currently “in custody.” The shooting, he added, took place in the parking lot at Avalon Pier.
