LA VERGNE, Tenn. (WKRN) -- A La Vergne family experienced every pet owner's worst fear Friday night, but thanks to two law enforcement agencies, their furry friend is back home, safe and sound.

According to the La Vergne Police Department, the family's beloved Golden Doodle -- "a companion, a source of joy, and a true part of their home" -- was stolen from their yard on Friday, Aug. 1.

Authorities responded to the scene as soon as they got the call just after 9 p.m. The officers listened, investigated, and followed every lead because, in the words of LVPD, "when something or someone you love is taken from you, it's not 'just a case.' It's personal."
