ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Albuquerque Police say a teen is dead after a shooting on Albuquerque's West Side, and are now naming the alleged shooter. On July 21, officers arrived to the area of Kimmick and Valiente near Paseo Del Norte for a shooting.
Police say two groups of teens were hanging out at the spot known as "The View," and 20-year-old Daniel Mayorga got upset with one group and shoved a teen.
Joshua Torres, 16, stepped in and shoved Mayorga back and punched him. Police say that's when Mayorga pulled out a handgun and shot Torres in the eye.
Police confirmed Saturday that Torres died on Thursday as a result of his injuries. Mayorga told police he wasn't the shooter but had been drinking and smoking weed and heard the shot.
Mayorga was arrested after the shooting and charged
