Passage of a new Oregon state law- the Oregon Mattress Stewardship Act- means Oregon Residents can now recycle their mattresses for free.

In terms of the new act, the Mattress Recycling program is now allowed to operate in Oregon, rather than being sent to landfills or incinerated at local incinerators, which was outlawed in 2022.

The Mattress Recycling Council (MRC), a non-profit organization, operates recycling programs in states where mattress recycling laws have been passed, and is now in Oregon.

The mattress recycling program is funded through a $22.50 fee collected when a mattress or box spring is purchased in Oregon. These funds are then used to set up free drop-off sites and collection events throughout the state.
