BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — A giant, century-old marquee spelling out “HOTEL ST. GEORGE” crashed to the sidewalk at 100 Henry St. in Brooklyn Heights at roughly 7:08 a.m. Sunday morning, bringing an emergency response by the NYC Fire Department, Buildings Department, Transit Agency and NYPD, and shutting down the Clark Street 2 and 3 subway station. The marquee, measuring roughly 10 x 20 feet, overhung the main entrance to the station.
The Buildings Department also found that a smaller marquee, over the station’s Clark Street entrance, was also sagging, and the decision was made to shut down the entire station until a licensed engineer could be found and it could be properly shored up. “I don’t like how that awning looks. It’s definitely leaning,” a Buildings Department supervisor on site said bef
