LOS ANGELES — Loni Anderson, best known for her role as the savvy receptionist Jennifer Marlowe on the beloved TV series "WKRP in Cincinnati," passed away on Sunday, just days shy of her 80th birthday. Her death occurred at a hospital in Los Angeles after a prolonged illness, according to her publicist, Cheryl J. Kagan.

Anderson's family expressed their sorrow in a statement, saying, "We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our dear wife, mother and grandmother."

"WKRP in Cincinnati" aired from 1978 to 1982 and depicted the challenges of a struggling Ohio radio station attempting to revitalize itself with rock music. The show featured a talented cast, including Gary Sandy, Tim Reid, Howard Hesseman, Frank Bonner, and Jan Smithers, alongside Anderson, who portrayed the attractive and intelligent Jennifer Marlowe. In her role, Jennifer often used her charm to manage unwanted business calls for her boss, Mr. Carlson, and her quick thinking helped keep the station afloat amid various challenges.

Anderson's performance earned her two Emmy nominations and three Golden Globe nominations. In addition to her television success, she starred alongside Burt Reynolds in the 1983 film "Stroker Ace." The two later married and became prominent figures in tabloid news before their divorce in 1994.

In 1995, Anderson published her autobiography, "My Life in High Heels," which she described as a narrative about her personal growth and experiences. She stated, "If you’re going to write about yourself, you have to do it warts and all."

Anderson is survived by her husband, Bob Flick, her daughter Deidra and son-in-law Charlie Hoffman, her son Quinton Anderson Reynolds, and her grandchildren McKenzie and Megan Hoffman. She also leaves behind her stepson Adam Flick and his wife Helene, along with step-grandchildren Felix and Maximilian.
