AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The Amarillo Calf Fries fell 16-8 in their series finale with the Wichita Wind Surge after giving up 10 straight runs in the top of the ninth inning.
Amarillo got on the board first after Jose Fernandez’s solo shot, but it was back-and-forth from there until the ninth inning.
Pitching woes hurt the Calf Fries. Alec Baker got the start on the mound for Amarillo, but only pitched 3.2 innings after fiving up four hits and four runs, two of which were home runs.
Zane Russell would ultimately pick up the loss. He allowed five runs off three hits and was relieved before he could get an out.
Despite the loss, Ben McLaughlin made his Double-A debut after being called up to the Sod Poodles Saturday, scoring both a run and a solo homer on Sunday.
