TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) - Florida's Department of Government Efficiency is targeting at least three local counties. Hillsborough, Pinellas, and Manatee counties will undergo further auditing and on-site review.

Less than two weeks ago, Governor Ron DeSantis announced Manatee County was the latest local county under scrutiny by DOGE. "Manatee County will be the next subject of the DOGE examination and audits," he said.

Letters from DOGE leaders to lawmakers in Hillsborough and Pinellas counties outline areas raising red flags.

Florida's Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia previously explained, "It doesn't matter if a county or city is republican led or a democrat led, what matters to me is if you are spending over and above what you should be spending."
