Kyrene de la Sierra Elementary School has closed its campus due to high particulate levels in the air as a roof undergoes construction, officials announced Sunday.

Students will be learning online from Aug. 4-8 and will be moved to an alternate campus beginning Monday, Aug. 11 through Sept. 26 .

“The health and safety of our students and staff is our highest priority,” school officials stated in a message.

“Out of an abundance of caution, we have made the difficult decision to temporarily close the Kyrene de la Sierra campus during this phase of roof construction, through fall break.”

Air quality tests conducted over the weekend inside the school indicated elevated particulate levels. Official results of the air quality tests will take 5-7 days.
