UNION SQUARE, Manhattan (PIX11) --- Four people were hospitalized after a straphanger sprayed mace aboard a train in the Union Square subway station Sunday night, police said.

The incident happened on a southbound No.4 train in the 14th St- Union Sq. station in Manhattan at around 9:40 p.m., according to the NYPD.

Eight people were sprayed with mace. Four were taken to the hospital in stable condition, and four others were treated at the scene, police said.

The suspect got off the train and fled after the incident, police said.

There have been no arrests.
