MICHIGAN CITY — The 25-year-old LaPorte man shot early Sunday outside a bar/restaurant near the city's popular lakefront and zoo has died, Michigan City police confirmed.

Police say it appears Dante Sellers had been involved in an argument while at Matey's Bar and Restaurant at 110 Franklin St. and was shot as he was walked to his vehicle parked nearby.

No one was immediately arrested, police said.

The escalating gun violence in the city is out control, Michigan City Mayor Angie Nelson Deuitch said in a prepared statement , which cast a wide net of blame from the offenders, to silent witnesses, to state gun laws and "social wounds."
