(NewsNation) — Erik Menendez has returned to prison after he was hospitalized for a week to receive treatment for kidney stones.

Menendez, 54, was transferred from the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility to a local San Diego hospital, where he underwent surgery.

"Erik had his second surgery due to complications with both kidneys having multiple large stones," Menendez's stepdaughter Talia posted in an update to social media on Aug. 2, according to TMZ.

"My dad is out of the hospital and back at the prison, preparing for our upcoming parole hearing," she said.

The Menendez brothers were sentenced to life in prison in 1989 for fatally shooting their parents at their Beverly Hills home.
