WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, Manhattan (PIX11) — A gas leak led to three buildings being evacuated in Washington Heights on Monday, officials said.
The FDNY received a call around 10:36 a.m. on Monday for reported elevated gas readings, which Con Edison said was an alarm from an installed natural gas detector.
Around 70 people were evacuated from three buildings at 1989, 1993 and 1985 Amsterdam Ave., according to the FDNY.
Officials from the fire department and Con Edison are working to find the source of the gas leak. No injuries have been reported, according to the FDNY.
It's unclear when the evacuees will be allowed back into the three buildings affected by the leak.
Officials said the operation is ongoing.
