COLUMBUS, Neb. (KOLN) — Authorities have identified the woman who was fatally shot by police after allegedly attacking an officer with a knife in Columbus on Saturday.

According to the Nebraska State Patrol, officers in Columbus were conducting an investigation near 13th Street and 30th Avenue at 4:54 p.m. when 33-year-old Lauree Jankowski allegedly attacked an officer with a knife, injuring them.

A different officer shot Jankowski, troopers said. Officers on scene tried to save her, according to NSP, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. The injured officer was taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries, and they were released a short time later.
