Tulsa homicide detective John Brown died Sunday of complications from cancer, police officials announced. He was 60.

Brown was one of the Tulsa Police Department detectives featured in A&E’s long-running docuseries “The First 48,” which gives an inside look at the work of investigators in various communities.
A 35-year member of TPD, Brown had been with the Homicide Unit since 2012. The unit, which has one of the country’s highest case solve rates, is now in its 10th year of having its work featured on A&E.
Lt. Brandon Watkins, unit leader, said of Brown: “It’s almost impossible to express what John meant to our unit. John was just that guy. He was the guy everyone wanted to work a case with. He was the guy everyone went to for
