MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WRBL) — Alabama Law Enforcement Agency officials announced Monday the death of a retired highway patrol K-9.
The 7-year-old canine, "K-9 Pici," started her career with ALEA Senior Trooper Brent Pickle in June 2020. Officials stated the duo played a vital role in public safety by removing firearms and narcotics from Alabama roadways, particularly in the Birmingham area.
Because of medical complications, Pici retired early and transitioned to be a companion. Pici died Saturday after a 10-month battle with bone cancer.
“K-9 Pici embodied the courage, loyalty and dedication that define the law enforcement profession," ALEA Secretary Hal Taylor said in a statement. "She was not only an asset to ALEA but a protector of our communities. We mourn her passing, but we also celeb
