KEY WEST, Fla. (WFLA) -- Two men died in the Florida Keys during spiny lobster season, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said last week.
On July 30, an 82-year-old man, identified as Clarence Shawver of Palm City, was found unresponsive while snorkeling in the Gulf. MCSO said he was about five miles offshore of mile-marker 60.
Shawver was brought back to shore at around 10:45 a.m. and taken to Fishermen’s Hospital in Marathon, where he was pronounced dead.
On July 31, a 61-year-old man, identified as Raymond Bruce Sasser of Loxahatchee, lost consciousness while snorkeling off mile-marker 74. He was taken to Mariners Hospital in Tavernier, where he was pronounced dead.
Foul play is not considered to be a factor in either man's death, according to MCSO.
