CROWN POINT — A 26-year-old man who allegedly beat his pregnant girlfriend so badly that she lost the pregnancy now faces charges of murder in the case, according to Lake Criminal Court records.

Cortez Morehead, of Gary, was charged Monday with murder, less than a week after the Lake County Prosecutor's Office charged him with felony feticide, aggravated battery, criminal confinement, domestic battery resulting in serious bodily injury, domestic battery, intimidation, auto theft and misdemeanor resisting law enforcement. If convicted of all charges, Morehead could face a minimum sentence of 45 years in prison and a maximum of 137 years in prison if sentenced to the maximum sentence on each count.
