CROWN POINT — Charges were dismissed Monday against a defendant charged in connection with a 2012 robbery turned homicide, seven years after the man agreed to plead guilty to the crime.

Lake Criminal Court Judge Samuel Cappas granted Deputy Prosecutor Christopher Bruno's motion to dismiss charges against Jesse Carter IV, 41, of Merrillville, in what Bruno wrote was "in the interest of justice," according to the motion to dismiss filed Thursday.

The motion included no other context on what led to the dismissal. The prosecutor's office declined to offer any information on the dismissal and Carter's public defender Nicholas Barnes declined to comment.
