Throughout the history of the Michigan football team, multiple wide receivers have been appointed to wear jersey No. 1. Often given to a veteran leader of the position group and first made iconic by Anthony Carter, other standouts include Derrick Alexander, David Terrell, Braylon Edwards, Devin Funchess and, most recently, Roman Wilson.
Entering fall camp and the 2025 season, Wolverines coach Sherrone Moore has decided to elect a new member to carry on that tradition. But instead of going with someone with experience at Michigan, Moore gave it to a veteran first-year transfer that is looking to take over Michigan’s passing game — graduate wide receiver Donaven McCulley .
