Surrounded by the media in the lobby of Schembechler Hall on Friday, Marlin Klein didn’t need to be asked about his aspirations in order to reveal them. All it took was a reporter wondering how he felt to be included on The Athletic’s Freak List for Klein to cut to the chase.

“That’s cool, but winning every game this season is more important to me,” the senior tight end said Friday, before pausing as he realized what that statement really implied. “That’s cool, but a national championship would be cooler.”

Klein’s idea of this upcoming season, along with pretty much everyone else’s in the Michigan football program, entails a pretty high ceiling. And while personal achievements aren’t explicitly included in that vision, Klein is acutely aware of the strides he’s made from last year.
