ATLANTA (WJBF) - The American Red Cross is calling on you to donate blood and help prevent critical shortages.

The American Red Cross of Georgia operates across eight chapters in the state, supporting hospitals and saving lives daily.

"You also have a constant need for cancer patients, sickle cell, pregnant women as well as those who need major surgery. We would like to encourage people to roll up their sleeve and donate blood," said Allison Flexner, with the American Red Cross of Georgia.

Blood donations drop in summer due to travel, but the need for blood is constant for surgeries, trauma, and emergencies.

Who can donate? • 17+ years old • At least 110 lbs • In good health
