Multiple Wiltshire businesses have been slapped with fines for “unsightly” signs causing issues on roads around the county.
Six firms have been hit with £500 fixed penalty notices for illegally placing adverts on the public highway.
Any advertising material for events or businesses posted without the consent of the landowner can be deemed as fly-posting, an offence under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 and the Highways Act 1980.
While Wiltshire Council allows community advertising with permission, it is cracking down on illegal advertising.
The council has not named the offenders as they were not convicted in court but has provided some details about their offending.
