Thomas Partey has appeared in court for the first time on five charges of rape and one of sexual assault.

The former Arsenal midfielder, 32, only spoke to confirm his name and that he understood his bail conditions during the appearance at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday morning.

What happens next?

Partey will next be required to attend court in London on 2 September at the Central Criminal Court, previously known as the Old Bailey, where he will be able to enter a plea for the first time.

His lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, previously said he “denies all the charges against him”, adding he welcomed “the opportunity to finally clear his name”.
