While an air quality alert continues for parts of the Midwest due to smoke from Canadian wildfires, northeastern Illinois was expected to shift away from air quality issues that persisted over the last week, the NBC 5 Storm Team said.

In Wisconsin, Michigan and parts of northwest Indiana, air quality Tuesday was expected to be at levels that were "unhealthy for sensitive groups" which ranks as level three of six on the Air Quality Index.

"Sensitive groups: consider rescheduling or moving all activities inside," the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources warned, adding that those with asthma and heart disease would be at more of a risk. "Go inside if you have symptoms."
