The City of Peoria has completed the transformation of the Powell Press Building, the city’s oldest commercial structure, into a new Latin American bistro named El Mirador en el Rio.
Located at 110 NE Water Street, the building dates back to 1852 and has served various purposes over time, including as a printing shop and riverfront visitor center. Most recently, it was vacant after operating briefly as an ice cream shop.
The city sought proposals last year to turn the property into a café or snack shop. Following this process, El Mirador en el Rio was chosen for a three-year lease with renewal options.
Co-owners Julia Salvatierra and Raam Adi led the renovation project. They invested more than $150,000 in updates
