(Pierre, SD) — A Chamberlain man with a controversial past says he’s running for governor of South Dakota. Forty-four-year-old Terry Gleason, a registered Republican running as an independent, admits it’s a long shot but says he wants to set an example for his kids and promote a more inclusive state. Gleason is on the state’s sex offender registry for a 2000 conviction of raping a 15-year-old girl, a charge he denies. He says that shouldn’t stop voters from supporting him. Gleason joins a growing 2026 field that includes several Republicans and at least one Democrat.
