Doobie Brothers, Coral Reefer Band rekindle summer music memories at Pine Knob

Could there be a more “Pine Knob” Pine Knob bill than the Doobie Brothers and the late Jimmy Buffett’s Coral Reefer Band together on one night?

Both have decades-long associations with the venue — the Doobies since 1974, Buffett and company since 1982, and both remained summer fixtures with dozens of performances since.

On Monday night, Aug. 5, the Doobies’ Patrick Simmons even joked about being at Pine Knob for “the thousandth time or something.” So the double-bill was a prototype of classic Pine Knob, an opportunity to build on some heady memories and, in the case of the Doobies, hear some new music.
