BLACK HAWK COUNTY, Iowa — The Black Hawk County Public Health (BHCPH) is urging residents to take action against mosquito bites as West Nile Virus has been detected in local adult mosquitoes.
With the virus levels typically rising during this season, the risk of human infection also increases. To protect against mosquito bites, BHCPH recommends using EPA-registered insect repellents containing DEET, picaridin, or other approved ingredients. Wearing long-sleeved shirts and pants, or clothing treated with permethrin, is advised. Ensuring that windows and doors have secure screens or using air conditioning can also help keep mosquitoes out of homes.
