The Science Mill hosts a workshop on Shibori dyeing on Aug. 16, part of its new Sips & STEM series for adults. The limited-space event is 4:30-6 p.m. that Saturday at the museum, 101 S. Lady Bird Lane in Johnson City. The cost is $30.

Led by Science Mill educators, attendees will explore the history and chemistry behind this traditional Japanese resist-dyeing technique and learn how fabric folding, binding, and dye oxidation create beautiful, one-of-a-kind patterns.

“This workshop is a fun, hands-on way to see how art and science connect,” said museum Senior Education Specialist Aileen Torres in a media release announcing the event. “It’s a little messy, it’s creative, and it’s a reminder to us all that beauty can come from experimentation.”
