With a month to go in the summer window, the impossible transfer still hangs over Leicester City.

It’s not just a new striker they need, but a successor for their greatest-ever player. The record-setting, glory-filled era of Jamie Vardy may loom over whoever’s next to wear City’s number nine.

He clearly isn’t replaceable. Even if a new man comes in and scores consistently for a decade, they’re still not likely to match Vardy’s heights.

But thinking in those terms, considering Vardy’s legacy as a shadow that could haunt a new signing, may be the wrong way to go about it.
