George Russell has insisted he will not sign his new Mercedes Formula 1 contract over the current summer break as the Briton is keen to not rush proceedings.

The 27-year-old’s deal expires at the end of the 2025 season and has been a major talking point in recent weeks as Red Bull’s Max Verstappen was touted for a move to Mercedes.

But ahead of last weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix, Verstappen confirmed he was not leaving Red Bull, meaning it is all but certain that Russell and his team-mate Andrea Kimi Antonelli , whose contract also expires this year, will remain with Mercedes.

Contract signings often occur during the annual summer break, but Russell revealed he expected nothing to happen before F1 returns for the Dutch Grand Prix on 29-31 August.
