BEAUMONT, Texas — Lamar University Police issued an emergency alert Tuesday morning warning students and staff to stay indoors while officers search for an armed individual on campus.

The alert, sent at 10:11 a.m., described the suspect as wearing a blue shirt, red pants and no shoes. University officials urged anyone on campus not to approach the individual.

"LUPD is currently searching for an armed individual. Stay indoors," the emergency notification stated.

The university's police department did not immediately provide additional details about the nature of the incident or what prompted the search. The alert did not specify the individual's exact location on campus or the type of weapon involved.
