As Gov. Ron DeSantis continues to push his immigration agenda across Florida, hundreds of wildlife officers have agreed to work with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the agency said.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission posted on X on Monday that nearly 800 officers have obtained their 287(g) credentials.

287(g) is a federal program that allows local police officers to perform certain federal immigration enforcement functions. This would include allowing officers to question, arrest and detain people who are suspected of violating immigration law.

The Florida Highway Patrol will also be playing a bigger role in immigration enforcement with the addition of its Immigration Enforcement Division.
