WASHINGTON — Hugh Meredith is a DMV native and says he's perplexed about President Donald Trump's order to increase federal police presence in the District.

"We’re at a 30-year low in violent crime within our city. I don’t know what the president is talking about at all," he said.

Trump's order went into effect at midnight, and ATF's Washington Field Division posted on X that officers were patrolling Georgia Avenue and Quebec Place Northwest around 2 a.m. on Friday.

"As a resident of D.C., as a civilian here in America, I do not want to see the troops on our streets," Meredith explained. "We don’t need them."
