Apparently, every single escalator at South Station (all 13 of them, according to the T) is as dead as a doorknob, so were Khayyam still around, he'd probably write something like:

The Moving Stairway goes up; and, having gone up, Just stops: nor all thy Piety nor Wit Shall lure it back to move again, Nor all thy Tears wash out a handrail of it.

Roving UHub correspondent Steve from Fields Corner reports that, after sitting on hold for awhile, got a T customer-service rep who informed him there was "an electrical problem in the escalator base," with no ETA. Although with any luck that ETA will end up being shorter than the one at what is now a seasonal art display at Bowdoin.
