“Vibrio has the potential to cause severe infections, including invasive soft tissue infections (sometimes called ‘necrotizing fasciitis’ or ‘flesh-eating bacteria’) and bloodstream infections,” Dr. Andrew Handel , a pediatric infectious diseases specialist at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital, told The Post.
