A Good Samaritan had his jaw broken when he tried to help a female pal who had been assaulted by her boyfriend. ‌

Hamilton Sheriff Court heard that Padraig Heggarty turned on the victim, punching and kicking him and stamping on his head. ‌

Heggarty, 24, of Bute Tower, Cambuslang, admitted assaulting the man and a woman in Clydesdale Street, Hamilton, on April 7, 2023. ‌

Megan McGurk, prosecuting, said the male victim was a resident at the Blue Triangle homeless accommodation at the time.

He was in his room shortly before 8pm when he heard a disturbance. He looked out of the window and saw the woman on the ground.

She had been shoved to the ground by Heggarty who then helped her to her feet. ‌

Ms McGurk told the court that the victim went outside to see if she was okay.
