NORFOLK, Va. — There’s a new energy surrounding Norfolk State football, and it starts at the top.

As fall practices continue at Dick Price Stadium, the Spartans are showing steady improvement under first-year head coach and Newport News native Michael Vick.

The NFL legend has been easing into his new role while steadily preparing his team for their highly anticipated season opener — a Thursday night showdown at home against Towson on August 28.

When asked what’s changed since spring ball, Vick said the growth has been competitive, intense, and crucial to team development.

"I just think our knowledge of the game," he said on Monday. "We go back and forth. Sometimes the offense wins, sometimes the defense wins. We're just challenging them to push each other everyday."
