KANSAS CITY, Mo. (WDAF) — Kansas City, Kansas, police say a Shawnee police K-9 that was assisting during an overnight barricade/standoff call was stabbed and taken to a vet.
KCKPD said officers responded to the call just east of 10th and Riverview at 3:45 a.m., where someone called 911 after a family member armed with a knife came back to a home following an assault.
Investigators said the suspect barricaded himself, leading to a standoff. Shawnee police sent the K-9 to help; when officers tried to arrest the suspect, he stabbed the K-9.
The KCKPD stated that the suspect surrendered at 7:30 a.m. and was subsequently arrested.
Police said K-9 Officer Dagger was wearing protective equipment at the time of the stabbing. The dog was taken to a veterinary clinic and is expected to make a fu
