A dump truck driver was killed after a fatal collision Monday morning on K-7 Highway in Olathe.

The incident occurred around 8:40 a.m. when 68-year-old Leslie Kendig of Osawatomie was driving a Sterling dump truck loaded with asphalt in the second northbound lane, according to a crash report from the Kansas Highway Patrol.

According to the crash report, Kendig veered into the first lane for unknown reasons and struck a trailer hauled by 52-year-old Patrick Clement of Lane.

In an apparent attempt to regain control, Kendig overcorrected to the right, sending the dump truck into a roadside ditch where it overturned, spilling asphalt across the highway.

Kendig suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. Clement was not injured.
