Strasburg officials are weighing plans to construct a new 750,000-gallon water storage tank and explore groundwater wells as a backup supply source, following an in-depth presentation to Town Council on Monday night by engineer Karl Shaeffer of Pennoni.

Shaeffer told the council that the new storage tank would significantly improve fire protection, reduce system inefficiencies and add much-needed redundancy to the town’s aging infrastructure.

Estimated to cost between $2.5 million and $3 million, the elevated tank's most ideal location would be located off Colley Block Road, near existing pump stations. Its construction would relieve pressure on the town’s lone 250,000-gallon tank, which is nearly 100 years old.
