Russell Brands plans to close its distribution center in Alexander City next month.
The Alabama Department of Commerce announced the closure, which will result in 80 job losses.
The closure is expected to happen on September 29.
Russell has long been a fixture in Alexander City, having been founded by Benjamin Russell in 1902. Over the decades, the company produced uniforms and athletic apparel which was sold throughout the U.S. It was listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 1985, and by 1988, had more than 10,000 employees. Later, it became part of the Fruit of the Loom family.
