Vice President J.D. Vance is traveling to Indiana Thursday to try to convince Statehouse Republicans to conduct an unusual mid-decade redistricting in the hope of preserving the slim GOP majority in the U.S. House.

Republican Gov. Mike Braun confirmed Tuesday that Vance is coming to the Hoosier State to pitch Republican President Donald Trump's idea of immediately redrawing the boundaries of Indiana's nine congressional districts to further favor Republicans, instead of waiting for the usual 2031 redistricting following the next U.S. Census.

Braun emphasized that "no commitments" have been made. But he also did not rule out the possibility of calling the Republican-controlled General Assembly into special session.
