CHEYENNE — The Laramie County School District 1 Board of Trustees continued discussions of updating the district's cellphone policy, potentially issuing a district-wide crackdown on student cellphone use, during a Monday work session.

Board members and administrators say that the current policy, which was last revised in 2020, is inconsistent and places a heavy burden on teachers, who must enforce a variety of classroom rules.

The policy was created prior to the district providing 1-to-1 electronic devices for every student, which made using personal devices for instructional purposes essentially obsolete, LCSD1 Superintendent Stephen Newton said.
