CHEYENNE — Community members are feeling bittersweet after finding out the Johnson Pool, a beloved community staple, is permanently closing this Sunday.

After more than 70 years of community use, the city-run outdoor pool has been a place for summer recreation for generations of Cheyenne residents.

Carla Dee has been coming to the pool with her husband and three kids since they moved to Cheyenne eight years ago. She said it’s been a great thing for the community.

Dee only found out the pool was closing Thursday through a Facebook post. Immediately, she planned to visit the pool Friday with her family one last time. Although she typically goes with a big group of friends, some of them weren’t available to join her on short notice, so it was just her and her three children.
