A strike kicked off at neighboring Boeing sites as Spirit AeroSystems is navigating the final stages of a merger that will see it become a subsidiary of the Boeing Company. On Monday, August 4, at least 3,200 skilled technicians in the St. Louis area walked off in protest of labor negotiations.

Spirit is located a little farther north in the Midwestern United States, but crucially, is not expected to be a part of the defense production units affected by the Union strike. Spirit employees have reportedly been told that none of their pay or benefits will change after the merger, leaving most at ease despite the strike.
