It’s really hard to evaluate about a team like the Mets right now. After losing seven of their last eight games in the midst of a playoff chase—as the Mets have now done after losing 3-2 to the Guardians tonight—one is tempted to talk about how this team just doesn’t that “it” factor that good teams need to have. And part of you knows that such talk is reactionary, that every team goes through bad stretches that feel like the end of the world in the moment, that the Mets could very easily start a winning streak tomorrow that makes us forget about any rough stretches which came before.
All of that is true. And yet, after watching another helpless Mets performance after a week full of them… man, the 2025 Mets really don’t feel like they have that “it” factor right now, do they?
