NATCHITOCHES, La. — Two separate wildfires, believed to be caused by lightning, are burning in the Kisatchie Hills Wilderness Area, prompting closures in the Kisatchie National Forest.

The fires, located about a mile apart near the Longleaf Scenic Byway, are estimated at roughly 7 and 16 acres.

As a result, the Kisatchie Hills Wilderness Area, its trails, the Longleaf Vista Recreation Area, and the Caroline Dormon trailhead parking lot have been closed to the public. Officials warn motorists to use caution on the Longleaf Scenic Byway due to the presence of fire personnel, heavy equipment, and smoke. The closures will remain in effect until the area is deemed safe to reopen.
